They say motor racing improves the breed. Well we have tried to embody that phrase into our culture here at Jaz Porsche. All our staff are involved in Motorsport in some way or another whether preparing race cars or attending to them trackside on race or track days. The reason for this is simple. We want to apply the same level of attention and detail that we show on our race cars to every car we work on. We want to go that extra mile to make sure your car is also the best it can be.
Our current Motorsport plans are mainly involved with historic cars. We have two 1965 911’s. Two litre engines with 190 hp. We have to use a canvas belted cross ply tyre which offer virtually no grip compared to modern racing tyres. They are however, really good fun. Imagine Sir Stirling Moss drifting round Goodwood in the 50’s. Well that’s what we would like to look like.
We are also involved with numerous track day cars. Track day preparation is one of our specialities. It is difficult finding that compromise of road and track set up but with decades of experience we can provide you with the best possible set up to suit your needs.
Our cars feature at most UK circuits as well as the famous Spa 6 Hours in September, Le Mans Classic and many others. We will add a list of events here shortly for the programme next year as well as post regular updates of our activities on our Facebook page.
Fantastic two hour race at Donnington finished 4th in class but got the first place 911 trophy kindly donated by Porsche club GB.
It went right to the wire passing the Tognola/Monk 911 at the last corner on the last lap.Check out the Phil Osborne’s great blog of the historical festival http://cumbriancarnut.com/donington-historic-festival-sun-20th-may-2017
How fortunate we are sometimes, meeting the right people at the right time…
Jack Logan, Porsche enthusiast through and through was fed up up with the performance of his factory prototype 911S/T after three attempts at finishing the Tour Auto, which is a week-long automotive version of the Tour De France. So I jokingly said, "we can sort your car for you, guaranteed”. He said, “Okay, let’s do it!”. How shocked we were, I can tell you.
So with an entry sent off for the 2014 running of the Le Mans Classic we waited in anticipation. Surprise surprise, we got accepted on the first call. The fact that Jack has driven in every Tour Auto since it's resurrection in 1999 may have had something to do with it.
So we prepped the car, sorted many pre race issues like the small job of fitting an FIA spec roll cage and off we went to Le Mans. Our fourth time driving there.
Qually went well but poor Jack got a puncture on his stint. We still ended up being the 2nd 911 on the grid out of about 10 cars. All three races went like clockwork, no trouble with the car at all other than lively handling at speed particularly from Tetre Rouge to the first chicane. We were very lucky with the weather though with many races being a total washout. Jack took the flag at the end of the last race, big grin on his face, drove brilliantly for a 70 plus year old. We finished top 911 over the three races, and 5th in GT with only Chevrolet Corvettes in front. Job done. Guaranteed.
